Political Pundits- Position Paper I

42% of American workers say they have fought about politics at work

Political Pundits is defined as, a person who offers the media their opinion or commentary on a subject that they know that about. From my perspective, the purpose of a political pundit is to serve the media with their knowledge about political situations and incidents that occur in one’s country. Some may ask the question ‘Why do we need Political Pundits?’, I mean it easy to voice your opinion about politics, anyone can voice their opinion. I believe Political Pundits are needed specifically for the relation of those who have opinions about politics. People may feel that watching and listening to Political Pundits is just for entertainment for those who have dull lives with nothing else better to do. Many individuals like my parents seem to believe that Political Pundits make rightful predictions regarding to political leaders and politics in general.

Pundits - Politics - Diversity -TV - The New York Times

Traditionally Political Pundits have made their predictions before election day. They have made their predictions for who will win and how the predicted president will win. Professional Political Pundits gives many Americans the most likely outcome of what and why will it happen. Though many Americans trust the many ideas that come from a Political Pundit’s perspective, no one ever really knows what will take place. In 2016, Allan Lichtman predicted Trump's win for the presidential election. Lichtman also predicted that Trump would be impeached as President of the United States, though that prediction failed to come to the past. According to research, Allan Lichtman has successfully predicted presidential elections since 1986, and this year he predicts that Trump will lose the 2020 Presidential election. I question how Lichtman's predictions have been accurate for such a long period, especially since predictions are labeled as wild guesses and inaccurate assumptions.

As a mass media analyst, I feel what we learn from predictive journalism is how they evaluate politics and predictions before making their predictions. We also learn how pundits are more out predicted by Americans we have never heard of. As mass media analysts we recognize how celebrities unintentionally become political pundits in America. In a sense, we often see them as Political commentators. Between live videos and posts on social media, many celebrities have used their brands and social media to assert their opinions and predictions about politics more and more every day. Celebrities like Dave Chappelle, who didn't show much interest in politics and politicians at first is now speaking out in his shows about injustice in America and how politics plays a part in the criminal justice and judicial system. Some people may feel that even though celebrities may share their opinions focusing on politics via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. politicians and political leaders encourage U.S. citizens not to listen to celebrities who speak about politics, but why?

Is Celebrity Politics Taking Over Washington? - Crush The Street

I honestly feel that Politicians and Political leaders may have a sense of fear toward celebrities sharing their public opinion simply because celebrities are looked up to more than your average political pundit. Political pundits will argue you down about their opinion that celebrities like Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and even Colin Kaepernick lack political references and credibility to be factual political pundits or commentators. Political leaders who are scared of a little competition from big named celebrities are quick to say, ‘Celebrities don’t care about you’. It is mentioned that most celebrities only talk politics for marketing reasons.  Another concern toward celebrities voicing their opinion about politics is how quickly their fans take their word over the 'professionals'. Can celebrities relate to regular citizens on a fundamental level? Regular citizens can’t do what they want without 95% care in the world compared to well-known names.

The Power of Celebrity in Politics | HuffPost

Being politically outspoken is becoming one of the biggest trends of our time. Sometimes this can be a good thing, sometimes this can be a bad thing. Politics aren't anything to play within the eyes of professional political pundits. Individuals may feel that the media destroy politics and the image of political pundits. Assumptions, rumors, and false accusations are what I believe to ruin aspects of politics and political pundits. Political Pundits and the media have different strategic habits.

When it comes to getting the media involved with politics and the government there may be a little bit more pressure than normal. Political pundits find themselves in the media regularly. Though the media helps political pundits, they can also hinder them. The endless information and news that comes from the media causes citizens to look for more because after all, it is entertainment right? Any form of media is designed to make individuals come back for more, and who’s to say Political Pundits aren’t oblivious to this fact? When social is used for political exposure and to promote political pundits, social media websites are used for messaging users and citizens to enhance a political process and a political pundit’s reputation. Though there are a lot of skeptical questions about politics and political pundits, let us consider the fact that everyone is just doing their job.
